Dub techno, industrial music and simplicity are the driving forces of the Cavatica Sessions project. Tim Gray and Elias Foley chose a small arsenal of distinctive instruments for these compositions. Through a practice of of embracing limitations and realtime collaborative composition, they have created an album of intriguing sound design and deep trance inducing grooves.
The name comes from a superb local brewery and a stout that they produce. Having also the association with the common barn spider sent the project deep into the web of arachnid consciousness and generated the album and visual design that is Cavatica Sessions first album "Orbweaver".
Tim Gray is an electronic music producer based out of Portland, Oregon. His prolific production output includes releases on Kranky, Tamarack Music, Lifelike Family, Occult Research, Recycled Plastics, and Virtual Urban Records. He has recently started releasing cassettes of his own work directly through his own Kenoma Tapes imprint. Tim has cultivated a deep understanding of psychoacoustics, sound design and electronic music composition through his study at Mills and his successful music career.
Elias Foley is an experimental electronic producer and artist from Portland, Oregon. He first tried his hand at experimental media production while at Evergreen State College and cut his teeth in the theater and dance as a sound designer. Through his early work in video and theater, Elias received significant recognition as a sound designer and experimental filmmaker. His current focus is electronic music production and distribution. Elias has releases on Lifelike Family and Rhythmus Records as well as a handful of project albums released via Tamarack Music.
